At a meeting on March 9, Premier Li Keqiang stressed more efforts be made to prevent cross-border spread of the novel coronavirus, ensure orderly production resumption, avoid formalism and bureaucratism, and to coordinate work in epidemic prevention and economic and social development.

The Premier is a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, and also head of the leading group on novel coronavirus prevention and control.

Wang Huning, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and deputy head of the leading group, also attended the meeting.

Currently, domestic epidemic prevention and control are seeing a positive trend, and the rising infection trend in Wuhan has been curbed. It was not easy to get to this point, and the general situation is still complex.

According to those at the meeting, targeted prevention and control measures should be adopted in different regions and areas with different levels, resolutely avoiding a rebound of the epidemic.

In the face of new challenges as the epidemic is spreading rapidly outside China, the Chinese government should enhance cooperation with the international community, and take proper prevention and control actions to ensure safe and orderly movements in and out of the country, the group said.

According to those at the meeting, China and other countries should share information on entries and exits in advance, and people bound for China should receive health checks before their departure.

The group required attention be paid to air travel to guard against imported COVID-19 cases through aircraft cleaning and disinfection, crew protection, health status reporting, body temperature examination, and in-flight prevention and control.

Stringent inspection, quarantine, prevention and control at ports of entry and exit were also stressed at the meeting. While preventing the epidemic from spreading outside, the Chinese government should identify and track inbound passengers considered to be confirmed cases, suspected cases and close contacts, providing them with testing, treatment and humane care.

In particular, for Beijing and other cities where ports see large cross-border population flows, strict procedures should be followed to control the epidemic.

A coordination mechanism should be in place between educational authorities in China and other countries, the group added, to delay or reduce two-way student flows.

The government should offer necessary guidance and assistance to Chinese nationals staying abroad amid the outbreak, the group said.

According to those at the meeting, the nation has had strong support from the people since the epidemic’s outbreak, and governments at all levels should continue their hard work with solid implementation of the Party’s and State Council’s policies.

In addition to the release of accurate prevention information and timely response to the public's concerns, departments should enhance coordination to solve issues in prevention, production recovery, and people's livelihoods.

Data sharing, supervision, and proper law enforcement also were stressed at the meeting.

Ding Xuexiang, Huang Kunming, Cai Qi, Wang Yi, Xiao Jie and Zhao Kezhi, members of the leading group, also attended the meeting.
